Downtown Neighbourhood - Chinatown 唐人街
Old meets new, and East meets West at the Chinatown in Vancouver, the largest in Canada. Located in the eastern side of downtown Vancouver, Chinatown remains a popular attraction for its rich Chinese culture, traditional restaurants, markets, temples and gardens. However, the district’s new community plan makes way for a renaissance as young restaurateurs open modern Asian restaurants and sophisticated bars in restored historical buildings, emerging as one of Vancouver’s most fascinating locales and hippest nightspots.
Dig deeper and find special gems in between the alleyways and the heritage buildings of Chinatown, from the Jimi Hendrix Shrine, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, to the classic Hon’s Wonton House. Amongst authentic Cantonese dim sum, favourite restaurants in the area are Phnom Penh, Bestie, Bao Bei and Torafuku. If I’m craving for that caffeine kick, Matchstick Coffee is my go-to. A handful of independent and stylish boutiques like Erin Templeton, Charlie & Lee and Board of Trade Co. offer hip and one-of-a-kind pieces for the modern stylist. Expect exciting new projects and plans underway for Chinatown, adding much value to the neighbourhood and the next generation.
